SpartaNature is held at Kellogg Biological Station - MSU's largest off-campus education complex and one of North America's premier inland field stations.

 

KBS is a year-round research facility with a focus on terrestrial and aquatic environments. A dozen MSU faculty work at the station which os located between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. These faculty share their time between teaching and research at both KBS and the main MSU campus in East Lansing.

Michigan illustration modified from NASA's Visible Earth archiveThe 4,065-acre station includes Kellogg Bird Sanctuary, Kellogg Farm, the Kellogg Biological Laboratories, the Conference Center, Extension and Outreach offices and the Lux Arbor Reserve. KBS has dorms, a cafeteria, library, classrooms and laboratories.

The main facilities at KBS are located on Gull Lake. There are many recreational activities available for students including swimming, hiking, volleyball, and more.

A branch of the MSU Library is located in the main complex and provides computers and wireless internet access.

 

Transportation

MSU will provide transportation to/from the Kalamazoo Amtrak station and the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport (AZO) with advance notice by July 1, 2009.

All other participants must arrange their own transportation to Kellogg Biological Station. If you drive, you will not have access to your car during the time at KBS.
